The Art of Letting Go

Today’s Inspiration
If you have a goal that you are moving towards achieving and you notice that no matter how much time, energy and money you put into it…you are feeling exhausted and frustrated wondering when it is all going to happen; then the best thing to do is quite the opposite to your natural way of pushing harder which is to practice ‘letting go’.
Coaching Tip
I don’t know about you, but my natural way is to try harder and push harder whenever I am focused on a goal that is not fully actualised. My life journey has been to practice ‘letting go’ from the push and the drive and do it all differently. I thought that ‘letting go’ meant resignation which is just not in my nature, no matter how much it might go against me. When I learnt about just how much more powerful outside results are… when I also do the inner work.
The inner work of ‘letting go’ means to hold on to the feelings of the desired end result you want (notice I said feelings) making sure it is for the good of all – win/win. Then act as though you already have the win/win result.

Set Up Your Environment for Success

Today’s Inspiration
Never underestimate the value of setting up your environment so that you live and work without the clutter hanging around. When your environment is clear, you will also be clear to make decisions and move forward with more flow and ease.
Coaching Tip
Take a look around you wherever you are right now…Do you have any clutter; laying around…papers all over the table, unread mail, cluttered cupboards, dust on your table, magazines laying around etc? This all detracts from you maintaining sustainable energy with a clear focus throughout your day.
Make time each week to begin to clear away, tidy up or get rid off anything that could possibly be blocking your own success. If you are the sort of person who is use to working and living inside of clutter; this becomes a habitual way of being and you will never know the difference until you make the changes. You will create even more energy and focus when you set up your environment for success.

Everyday Wealth

Today’s Inspiration
Are you living your ‘life style’ every day from your heart or are you dreaming of your lifestyle as a future thing that will happen when you ‘have enough money, time, energy’? Your ‘life style’ is how you choose to set up your day bringing in everything that is important to you according to your values. Set up the ‘life style’ that suits you.
Coaching Tip
I use to think that I could only live my desired lifestyle when I retired with enough money and time. Today I know it has nothing to do with these things. Sure money and time are important; yet what is more important is how you spend your time. It is all about knowing who you are and what is important to you, then making sure you create the ‘style of life’ spending time doing those things.
Set up a conscious life style plan and begin to put those things in place on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. My experience is, it is always the simple things in life that are the most desired each day that create success, contentment, real wealth and inner peace. Make sure you start there.

Automatic Systems for Success
July 7, 2010 by Annette
Today’s Inspiration
How often do you find yourself jumping from one thing to another inside your busy day? Feeling scattered and non-productive with a sense of life and business being hard! It truly does not have to be that way when you decide to put ‘simple’ systems in place for everything that is important to you in your life and business. This is when you will become the ‘creator’ instead of the ‘reactor’ to whatever comes your way.
Coaching Tip
You will automatically be doing things everyday that will be a system or routine way of life. Become conscious about what these are (write them down) and then add the things that you keep pushing aside eg. time to manage your finances, weekly dates with your partner, making time for family fun days, weekly staff meetings etc. The things that you do not set automatic system with a time and a date booked – will always become a challenge if you do not. It will then feel bigger than what it truly is. Set up your simple systems today in your life and your business – then keeping in mind ‘progress – not perfection’ and practice patience until they become automatic.

Get Organised with Simple Systems

Today’s Inspiration
One of the most precious assets you have is ‘Time’. How is your time being spent? A system is simply the way you choose to spend your time. You can either be organized or be in a state of busy flurry. If you want to be more organized the easiest way is to create simple systems for everything you want to spend your time doing in your personal life and your business life for success.
Coaching Tip
If you would much prefer to be living in a state of flowing action; where to start is to write down what you are spending your time doing throughout your day. Then add those things you know you want to spend more time doing. When applying simple systems (routine) for everything that is important to you in your personal life and your business life, you will become much more organised so that you can live a fulfilling personal life and business life. Become the CEO of your time today and begin to put simple systems in place.

The 3 Steps to Sustainable Change
June 10, 2010 by Annette

Today’s Inspiration
Having a solid personal foundation in life will keep you standing on solid ground no matter how shaky it may get for you. If you are wanting to stop the ‘roller-coaster’ way of life, with changes just not happening fast enough, the key to change always begins and ends with your personal foundation.
Coaching Tip
Where to start with your strong personal foundation is always a great question. The first step is to begin to clean up anything you may be tolerating in your life as this will always take you off your focus, zap your energy and time is a great place to start.
The next step (even at the same time as cleaning up your tolerations) is to identify what your boundaries are (this is what you will and won’t accept of others) and then set them up in your personal and business life by putting systems in place also speaking with the necessary people involved. Remember to maintain assertive and respectful communication if this is new for you. There can be a tendency to become aggressive which will put you and others on the wrong footing.
The next step is to live your standards – this is what you will and won’t accept of yourself – i.e. daily exercise, be around positive people, live in a clean home, have your work be something you are passionate about, being organised and on time etc. You will always create a sense of order in your life when you live to your own standards and not others.

How to Best Maximise your Time
February 25, 2010 by Annette
Today’s Inspiration
Accomplishment occurs when you are fully present on your chosen action inside the allocated time you have set realistically to do that particular action in. Are you doing one thing and focusing on everything else that still needs to be done feeling frantic about time and wondering how you are going to fit it all in?
Coaching Tip
Most of the time we are doing one thing and focusing on everything else that still has to be done. When you de-compartmentalise your daily actions in time schedule break downs and then focus on the one thing you have allocated the time to do staying 100% present in the moment until the time you have allocated is up, then you can focus your mind on the next job at hand. This is how you will get more accomplished and stop the overwhelm in every area of your life. It is never about ‘time’ – it is always about what you choose to do inside your time, accompanied with mindset and focus. Practice today to be 100% present – in the moment.

It’s my Birthday Special…Reflections
November 19, 2009 by Annette
Today’s Inspiration
I find birthdays are a great time for honest reflection as to whether I am really on track at a deeper heart level steering my life in the direction I say I want to go. The truth is there are always things outside of our control that cannot be understood (no matter how hard you try) with the only way through being to remain focused on what you have achieved and what you can take control of using heart responsibility and accountability.
Coaching Tip
As I reflect upon the past year, I have witnessed many challenges, many exciting moments, many times of uncertainty, many successful achievements all wrapped up into One! Yes, this is all a part of being humanly real inside of my true commitment of being ‘the best me’ I possibly can be each and every day. Upon my honest reflections today, I am conscious about not making certain things wrong that did not work out or the unpleasant challenges or noticing the things that still have not yet happened in my life, and to consciously look at how I have grown by learning better ways of dealing with those challenges at a heart shifting level. This is what has been the most important aspect of my reflections today which I share with you from the bottom of my heart.

Managing your Time Better
September 21, 2009 by Annette
There is no such thing as time management, because no one can manage time. What you can manage is the choice of actions you take during your day. Time management challenges often arise when you:
a) over commit yourself to take actions in an underestimated
time frame and with an unrealistic ‘to do list’.
b) say ‘yes’ to everyone and everything, not wanting to let
people down.
c) do not take time out for yourself, feelings of guilt if you do have
5 minutes to spare.
Time Management versus Self-Management
One of the challenges I often hear from clients is ‘how do I fit it all in?’ When you manage what is most important to you, based on your values first, this will always give you space and energy to achieve the other most important things. It never ceases to amaze me how the three main areas we let go of when the ‘busy cycle’ appears, are normally exercise, quality time with loved ones and our own self-care.
Imagine if you looked after all these first as a priority. Think how great you would feel with more energy and focus to take care of new habits you would like to create. I notice that whenever the higher percentage of my focus is on my business projects, my exercise routine gets pushed to one side. As soon as I become conscious about this and start to pick up the exercise routine, my business projects become more creative, with a natural flow about them.
3 Steps to Self-Management: Breaking it down
- Career/Business
- Foundation/Nurturing
- Time Out for Self
Planning your time is often a combination of tasks scheduled in your diary and a to-do list for you to get around to when you have spare time. The more you can schedule the most important things, as well as your daily tasks, into your diary with a time and date set against each one, the more likely it is that you’ll achieve them.
A big tip is to leave plenty of white space scheduled in your diary, to manage the unexpected, or things you may have forgotten about in your day. This is normally a challenge for most of my clients, as they are trying to fit so much into their day and invariably wonder how they can ever leave ‘white space’ in between scheduling. My challenge to you is to ‘give it a go’ for at least 30 days and notice what happens. Do the important things first and be responsible about your choices to stop wasting time.
Every Friday afternoon I sit down with my weekly schedule list and place every activity into my diary against an allocated time. This also includes the action steps for my committed goals. Create your own self-management plan by filling out the weekly schedule below, using the 3 breakdown steps.
Career/Business covers all roles/responsibilities required to be completed on a weekly and monthly basis, e.g. weekly meetings, accounts, client contact calls etc.
Foundation/Nurturing covers all areas that are important to you for developing a healthy and happy foundation, e.g. quality time in relationships, exercise, shopping, family time etc.
Time Out for Self covers what is important to you based on personal development and time-out for yourself to recharge your batteries, e.g. reading business and personal development books, meditating, journal writing etc.
10 Steps to Living with a Strong Foundation
September 7, 2009 by Annette
I remember back in 1984 when I was training for the National Touch Titles and my trainer gave me a sheet of paper faced down. As he handed them around to the selection squad of 20 team members he said ‘when you turn this sheet over and read it, it will change the way you see things, not only on the sports field, but also in your life’.
My initial reaction was… ‘What has this got to do with training for the National Titles?’ Maybe I heard him wrong (my inner voice said) as I could feel the excitement rise telling myself ‘It may be a new tactical play’ (which was what I loved creating and making happen). I then turned the paper over and much to my surprise I read these words…
The Winner’s Creed
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you won’t.
If you like to win, but think you can’t.
It’s almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world we find,
success begins with a person’s will –
it’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you’re outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself
Before you can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
to the stronger or faster person.
But sooner or later the person who wins
is the one who thinks they can.
- Unknown -
I looked up at the trainer and he said… ‘You have trained your body, it is even more important to train your mind and to think like winners’. That was the start of my introduction to the psychology of winning and the power of the mind. That sheet of paper handed to me 24 years ago was one of the first major turning points in my life to which I share this same philosophy with many people I work with.
It is as simple as… ‘what you focus on in life – is what you will create’. Creating a positive and healthy mindset is so important to support you in attracting what you want in life. Observe how often you catch yourself talking or complaining to others about what you don’t want to happen or what has happened. Do you resolve it or do you find yourself repeating the same pattern?
As you move through your day you are constantly talking to yourself, whether you are aware of this or not. You are constantly telling yourself what you think, and feel about your experiences and interactions. These self-statements are absorbed and retained by your subconscious mind for future use. They form powerful directives that are subliminally put into action.
If you tell yourself, ‘I am successful’, then the message you are passing on to your body is ‘be successful’. Your subsconscious mind does not interpret this as, ‘he/she really does not know what he/she is talking about! It responds literally to the directive it receives from the conscious mind. In turn, the message the body receives is, ‘be successful’!
Words trigger off powerful associative images, especially if they are backed up by strong emotive feelings. Whether they are favorable or unfavorable it is taken in as truth. How you communicate with yourself determines your outcome.
In the computer world there is a saying ‘garbage in, garbage out’. The same applies to your mind. Quality input = quality output. You deserve the best. Be the guard of your mind and play ‘positive FM – not negative FM’.
Think about what it is you want to attract in your life and hold onto that vision with unshakeable faith. Take small achievable steps towards your vision and acknowledge yourself along the journey. Remember that the fullest contentment and enjoyment is in the journey – not the destination.
“A person cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances.” – James Allen -
